Short Notes (Hardware, Software, Firmware)

Hardware
Computer hardware is the collection of physical components that make up a computer. As we all know that there are many electronic components used in computer system. In another word we can say that hardware covers all parts of a computer that are tangible(perceptible by touch) objects. Some of examples of hardware are input devices like keyboard and mouse, output devices like printer and monitor, storage devices like disk drive and computer itself.
In basic all the physical components of computer system are called hardware such as monitor, CPU, Mouse etc.

Software
The Collection of instruction or logical components that instruct the hardware to perform specific tasks. In general It refers to parts of the computer which do not have a material form, such as programs, data, protocols etc. It refers to something intangible. Basically, software is a program, written by a programmer which control's/ operates specific parts of computer or specific application.

Software can be dived into two major categories
System Software: It includes operating system and all utilities that enable the computer to function.

Applications Software: It includes programs that do real work for users. For example, word processors, Spreadsheets and database management system etc.

Firmware
The system software stored in a computer's read only memory (ROM)  or else where in the Computer's Circuitry. A set of micro instructions stored in a chip is called firmware. Micro instructions are hardware level instructions which are directly executed by the hardware. Firmware is loaded into the equipment, either at the time it is manufactured or later, by the person installing the equipment or the person using it. Firmware is a combination of software and hardware. ROM's, PROM's and EPROM's that have data or programs recorded on them are firmware.
